Enable Real-Time Material Tracking with Hub360

Case Study: Improving material tracking, ensuring compliance, and supporting sustainability

Client: Monaghan County Council

Industry: Public Infrastructure

Overview

Monaghan County Council, supported by the TII, NRA, and the Department of Transport, partnered with Hub360 to improve the management of construction and demolition (C&D) waste.

The project aimed to accurately track material movements, ensure compliance with sustainability standards, and align with circular economy principles.

By implementing Hub360, the Council gained real-time insights into material movements, enabling better resource management and environmental accountability.

Challenges

Before adopting Hub360, Monaghan County Council faced several challenges:

  1. Manual Processes: Reliance on paper-based dockets and manual data entry caused inefficiencies and increased the potential for errors.

  2. Lack of Real-Time Tracking: Monitoring material movements in real-time was impossible, making it difficult to ensure compliance.

  3. Data Gaps: The inability to verify pickup and drop-off locations hindered oversight.

  4. Sustainability Metrics: Estimating CO2 emissions and demonstrating compliance with circular economy goals was challenging.

Solution

To overcome these challenges, Monaghan County Council adopted Hub360, leveraging its key features to streamline operations:

  • Real-Time Geo-Tracking: Enabled operatives to log and photograph each truck at pickup and drop-off points, ensuring accurate journey records.

  • Digital Documentation: Replaced manual entry with digital dockets and timestamps, minimising errors and improving data reliability.

  • Enhanced Oversight: Provided tools to monitor and manage waste movements, ensuring regulatory compliance and sustainability alignment.

Project Scope

The project focused on:

  • Material Movements: Tracking materials from roadside to quarry and back to the final reinstatement location.

  • Comprehensive Data Capture: Logging every truck movement with timestamps, geo-tags, and photos on the Hub360 platform.

  • Circular Economy Support: Documenting material reuse and recycling efforts to promote sustainable resource management.

Results

  1. Real-Time Data Visibility

    • Project data was accessible in real-time, improving material and project oversight.

  2. Improved Compliance

    • Full traceability of materials ensured adherence to environmental and circular economy standards.

  3. CO2 Monitoring

    • Provided estimations of CO2 emissions, including:

      • Emissions from loaded transport trips

      • Emissions from empty return trips

      • Total project CO2 impact

  4. Operational Efficiency

    • Detailed analysis of material and waste management performance enabled better planning and decision-making.

Key Achievements

  • 100% Visibility: Complete traceability of all material movements from pickup to drop-off. Tracked materials from roadside to quarry and back to the final reinstatement location.

  • Paper-Free Processes: Eliminated paper dockets, saving time and reducing environmental impact.

  • Sustainability Metrics: Delivered verifiable CO2 impact data to support green initiatives.
