The Impact of Digital Transformation During the COVID-19 Era

In the pre-Coronavirus business world, around 7 out of every 10 companies had already achieved some kind of digital transformation. However, it would seem that most of them hadn’t gone quite far enough down that road to mean that the pandemic left them unaffected.

Whilst some already took advantage of supermarket grocery deliveries before the lockdown, it’s a service that is now understandably very popular. The same goes for late-night food deliveries. As people are now prevented from going out and socialising, ‘nights in’ have had to replace them. In this scenario, companies that are able to change the way they deliver their services or products to meet these new requirements stand the best chance of survival.

Area #3 - Virtual Events 

The live entertainment industry has been pretty much wiped out by COVID-19, however there has been an emergence of new concepts like digital concerts - some from the homes of the artists themselves - to fill this void. It’s unlikely that people will prefer this to the live experience once lockdown ends, but it’s an indication of how digital technologies are able to lessen the impact of social distancing.

Area #4 - The Cloud

The cloud is central to the smooth operation of many businesses these days, as collaborating over even short distances would be problematic to say the least in its absence. The cloud is also central to digital transformation, offering limitless storage, computing and streaming possibilities. Without it, the current lockdown would be so much more difficult for businesses and people alike to cope with.
