Why Prioritising Digital Solutions for Construction & Demolition Waste Management is Essential?

The recent EPA’s updated Waste Management guidelines for Construction & Demolition Projects 2021 prioritises the adoption of a circular economy, emphasising reuse and recycling over disposal. This means tracking, tracing and auditing of the movement of Construction materials where the developer must “maintain records for all resource material which is used on site and leaves the site, either for reuse, recycling, energy recovery, backfilling or other recovery or disposal on third party sites”. As per the EPA Best Practice Guideline 2021 - for the preparation of resource & waste management plans for construction & demolition projects.

Essentially this means that;

  1. Developers of all construction and demolition projects have a statutory requirement to maintain records for all resource materials entering and leaving their construction sites.

  2. Developers must track and record all resource details, quantities, haulier/contractor information, and destination sites.

  3. Developers must have this information to report on resource movements and their compliance with established targets.

The responsibility to ensure these guidelines are successfully implemented involves multiple stakeholders, including but not limited to

• developers

• contractors

• local authorities

• An Bord Pleanála

• government bodies

Given the demanding and time-consuming nature of these requirements, the introduction of smart technology is unquestionably a game-changing step in this process, especially as the involvement of numerous stakeholders makes digitalisation the obvious choice for a coordinated, unified access.

The HUB360 Driver APP can enhance transparency and improve customer relationships when hauliers, third-party suppliers, and contractors work with developers to transport construction materials to the site and remove waste and by-products.

By utilising the HUB360 platform, it ensures that essential information is readily accessible to developers and stakeholders. This allows for easy monitoring and reporting of material movements in and out of their construction sites.
